District incharge minister G T Deve Gowda on Saturday announced an ambitious project — ‘Vanothsava’ — to provide green cover to the city in a big way.
The minister conducted the spot inspection at the PKTB Sanitarium premises for the preliminary work on planting saplings, in the morning amidst rains. The date for launching the project is yet to be decided and it is likely to happen next month.
About 2,500 saplings will be planted in an area of 50 acres belonging to the sanitarium. About 50,000 saplings are planned to be planted all over the city. Maintenance of the trees for five years will be the responsibility of the respective departments.
