More deaths reported in Raichur, Gulbarga
DH News Service, Gulburga/Raichur:

Two boys who had gone to buy bread at a  local bakery died when they were caught under a roadside house wall collapse.

The municipality has woken up after the tragedy and started a survey of dilapidated houses in the City. A order to survey old crumbling houses was issued by the deputy commissioner six months ago. However, the order was not carried out.

Tanks, strays in the district are over flowing. Many of the tanks may breach any minute.

Overflowing

Tanks in Kavitala and Yaklasapura at Maski taluk are already overflowing. Tanks at Uppara Nandihal , Lingasugur taluk and  Kadlur, Raichur taluk had breached few days ago.

“The Small Irrigation Department has been totally inefficient in handling tanks at Uppara Nandihal. Many tanks are in dangerous state due to not lack of maintenance” alleged zilla panchayat vice-president Pamayya Murari. Another house collapse has claimed 7 people in one day in Raichur.

Every time it rains , several old houses collapse and claim people’ lives. Till now ten deaths are reported in the district.

Power and telephone services are also cut off, plunging the district in darkness and without communication. The heavy rains that  lashed in the district for the  last 3-4 days and threw normal  life out of  gear,  seemed to have  subsided on Sunday and allowed the public to breathe a sigh of relief.

Former Chief Minister and leader of Opposition N Dharam Singh toured his constituency Jevargi and took stock of the devastation caused by the  incessant rains.

The rains also subsided in Yadagiri, Shahpur, Sedum, Chittapur, Afzalpur. Aaland and Chincoli.

Woman washed away

However a woman was washed away in the torrential rains that lashed in Mayur village in Jevargi on saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Shantabai Bhimraya Mainal. Her body was fished out on Sunday morning from a canal in the outskirts of the  village.

Relocated

About 75 people were relocated to Bardevanhalli from Uppaldinni in Surupur taluk as the Dhoni river over flowed and threatened to flood the region.

The Taluk administration has  opened a food centre to help out the displaced families. Legislator  Raju Gowda visited the affected areas and chalked out  relief  plans to help the people.
