Internal reservation unwanted
Sir, The Andhra Pradesh government now wants to provide internal reservation to Muslims based on caste-like features in a Muslim society.
This is totally opposed by many religious, social and political organisations under the banner of “Muslim United Action Committee”. The 125 year old Islamic university, Jamia Nizamia, Hyderabad, has decried the malignant mind of the Congress government in AP which wants to humiliate the Quran and prophet Muhammed by creating divisions among Muslims and set up one-group against the other.
Islam is totally against Brahmin Muslims and Dalit Muslims. All are equals. The committee has the right to oppose the “creamy layer” concept. Muslims need honest efforts for standard education and sustainable economic inputs at the grass-root level.

Keep up the work
Sir, I congratulate Deccan Herald for entering into the 60th year.
If I remember correctly, it was in 1948, when I was in high school, that my father subscribed to DH and continued till his death in Chikmagalur. I continued that tradition even after my migration to Bangalore. I am 76 years old now and I am more or less addicted to DH. How can I forget “Over a cup of tea” by the legendary editor Pothan Joseph, “Blondie”, “Citizen” by B V Ramamurthy, “Tarzan” of those days and the columns of Khushwant Singh. I also like the sports items in the last pages. Let me wish a century to come for DH and sister publications, Prajavani, Sudha and
Mayura.

Kalam’s retreat
Sir, By withdrawing from the Presidential contest, A P J Abdul Kalam has in fact stepped back from what one may describe as verily a precipice that was incidentally, on the edge of a political cesspool. Apparently, he had been dragged towards it, more or less unwillingly, by a set of discredited political “has beens” who wanted to use the persona of Mr Kalam as a pawn in their game of partisan and fratricidal politics of one-upmanship to spite the UPA’s consensus choice of Pratibha Patil. This “firm” decision from Mr Kalam should remove all the disappointment that many of his fans and followers had felt on the vacillating stand he had taken on contesting as the UNPA’s candidate.

Hats off, NASA
Sir, Hats off to NASA and its Indian-American astronaut Sunita Williams and her colleagues for the successful voyage to and from the International Space Centre, braving all turbulence. When Atlantis landed at California on June 23, the world heaved a sigh of relief. It was a picture-perfect, textbook landing, allaying fears about safety in the wake of inclement weather at Florida. The day belonged to Sunita. Surely Sunita is a big leap for womankind for spending over six months in space, setting a record for the longest space-flight by a woman.

Appoint a desi coach
Sir, Having goofed up on the Doug Whatmore and Graham Ford selections as India’s cricket coach, the BCCI and the Indian cricket establishment is going out on town to recruit a foreigner with the least or no experience in cricket. However, the BCCI would not consider an Indian cricket coach even if he has limited experience. The effort seems to be to employ managers to handle our boys since that is what BCCI does, manage Indian cricket, not allow it to be played.
