Kannada writers invited for award

Karnataka Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi has invited applications from Kannada writers who have written books in Kannada during the year 2006.

This is an endowment programme instituted in the name of Jayashree Trust. Preference will be given to books on Gandhi and Vinoba’s life and message. The themes can also include national integrity and personality development.

The selected author will be given a cash prize of Rs 2,000 on Independence Day at Gandhi Bhavan. Interested authors can send three copies of their book to Secretary, Karnataka Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi, Gandhi Bhavan, Kumarapark East, Bangalore - 560 001 on or before July 15 2007.

Frequency of trains increased

Hubli division of South Western Railway has decided to increase the frequency of train nos.1561/1562 Miraj-Belgaum-Miraj passenger from six days in a week (except Sunday) and train nos.1563/1564 Miraj-Belgaum-Miraj passenger from six days a week (except Saturday from Miraj and except Sunday from Belgaum), to daily services with effect from July 1, 2007.

The composition and timing of the trains will remain unchanged, according to a press release issued by the Railway department.

Timings rescheduled

South Western Railway has decided to reschedule the timing of train nos. 5277/5278 Dharbanga-Bangalore City-Dharbanga weekly express with effect from July 3 from Dharbanga and from July 7 from Bangalore City.
The weekly trains are given the status of super fast services with effect from July 3.

These weekly super fast trains will be renumbered as train nos.2577/2578 Dharbanga -Bangalore-Dharbanga weekly super fast express.

Train no. 2577 Dharbanga-Bangalore City weekly super fast express will depart Dharbanga at 4:10 am on July 3 and arrive at Bangalore at 8:40 am the third day. Train no.2578 Bangalore City-Dharbanga weekly super fast express will depart Bangalore at 9 am on July 7 and arrive Dharbanga at 1:30 am the third day.

Super fast charges will be chargeable with effect from July 3 for those passengers who have booked their tickets by this train in advance.
