Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Monday filed her nomination for the Vidhan Parishad bypolls.
Two seats in the Council had fallen vacant following the deaths of BSP’s Barkhu Lal Verma and Vikramaditya Pandey.
The other seat will be filled in by Swami Prasad Maurya, minister for land revenue in the state government.
Only two nominations have been filed for the seats, results of which will be announced on thefifth of July.
fiThe chief minister, who is currently not a member of either House of the state legislature, filed two sets of nomination papers, each proposed by 10 legislators.
The BSP President is currently a Rajya Sabha member. Later speaking to reporters, Ms Mayawati said that she had opted for the council as she wanted to concentrate on the development of all 403 Assembly constituencies in the state.
“I do not want anyone to accuse me of giving more money to any particular constituency,” Ms Mayawati said.
