Nimble feet of Gulbarga have made the district proud. They have emerged in flying clours at the national-level dance competitions held at Pune in Maharashtra and Solan in Himachal Pradesh.
Kumari Vaishnavi Deshpande a seventh standard student studying at the St Joseph Convent here has bagged the first prize at the National Dance Competition held at Solan in Himachal Pradesh from June 12 to 18.
Daughter of Jayateerth Deshpande, an employee of the State Health Department and Surekha Deshpnade couple ,Vaishnavi has achieved her commendable performance in Kuchipudi solo performance.
Vaishnavi had a very stiff competition as she was pitched amidst 90 competitors from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, MP, UP, Bihar, Orissa, West Bengal, Punjab, Uttaranchal, Jarkhand, Goa, Rajasthan, Haryna, Gujarat and host Himachal Pradesh.
Her dance teacher Shubhangi Sudhindra, school principal and others have congratulated Vaishnavi for her splendid performance.
In yet another fete senior and junior dancing teams of Varnasindhu Nritya Kala Kendra of Gulbarga have won awards both in Bharatanatya and Kuchipudi forms at the All India Multi-Lingual Drama, Dance, Music Contest organised by the Akhil Bharatiya Sanskrutik Sangh at Pune in Maharshtra recently. They were given talent certificates and certificates of honour by the organisers.
In the solo dancing competition Avanti, Padma Deshpande and Mukta Utagikar have won prizes, while in duet dance section Cahitra Desai, Manisha Bhatt, Harshini Sitnoor, Padmaja Kulkarni, Nikhita and Rutuja have won prizes. In the group dance section the team bagged the second prize.
Talent certificates have also been issued to Kendra Director Anant Chinchansur for Bharata natya composition and for Kuchipudi dance direction.
