District unit of the Karnataka State Government Employees’ Association has condemned the alleged torture of head mistress of Uppaldinne Tanda Government Primary School in Bijapur district by the School Development and Management Committee (SDMC).
The Association has expressed its shock and grief over the increasing number of torture and harassment met by lady teachers in the hands of SDMC office-bearers.
Association district unit President Devappa Ronad said the increasing incidents of high-handedness and torture of lady teachers by the SDMC chairman and members has created an atmosphere of terror in schools and it was becoming increasingly difficult for lady teachers to work without fear and favour.
The lady teachers have been undergoing untold mental tension and anxiety and were not in a position to perform their duties properly.
Stop torture
He wanted the State government to take immediate steps to contain effectively the torture of lady teachers and create a conducive atmosphere in schools and villages for them to discharge their duties.
Ronad said the suicide of a teacher of Uppaldinne Tanda in Bagewadi taluk of Bijapur district has come as a rude shock to the lady teachers in particular and the State government employees in general, as the horrible memories of suicide of a teacher Prema of Venkatapur village in Gadag district and an attempt to molest another teacher of Halbhavi village in Shahapur taluk of Gulbarga district, were still lingering fresh.
