The much-awaited Sainik School at Koodige will start functioning from August, said Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav.
Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday, he said a total of 56 acres of land including a unused building of agriculture department have been handed over to the education department.
He said to start military school, there was a need to have classrooms. It was decided to use the unused agriculture department building for the purpose and the building has already been handed over to education department. The building will be repaired.
A proposal has been sent to the government to utilise 15 quarters belonging to silk, co-operative and agriculture department to the staff members. If the government grants permission, the quarters will be utilised for some time.
Mr Yadav said “a proposal of Rs 24 crore has been sent to the State government for starting of Sainik school. Though the government has earmarked Rs 10 crore for the Sainik School, we have not received any intimation from the government so far.”
The Sainik School at Koodige will be second Sainik School in the State next to Bijapur. The school will offer education from sixth standard to 12 standard in CBSE syllabus.
Survey
Mr Yadav said the survey on the C & D land at Somwarpet taluk will be completed by the end of July. The survey at Madikeri and Virajpet taluks have already been completed.
He said in Madikeri taluk, survey of 12,391 acre land in 73 villages has been undertaken. Nearly 5,000 acres of land have been encroached.
In Virajpet, 4,637 acre land has been surveyed in 19 villages. Of which, 2,300 acres of land has been encroached. In Somwarpet, out of 19,293 acres land in 93 villages, 11,500 acres lan has been surveyed. Government has to take decision on the legalising of the encroached land, Mr Yadav added.
To a query on the M C Nanaiah’s statement on the increase in the number of ward from 23 to 31 in Madikeri Town Municipality Council, he said “though under Karnataka Municipality Act there is no scope for increasing the wards, government has decided to increase the number of wards under special power.
Government’s decision is final,” he added. To another query on handing over the land belonging to University of Agricultural Science to the private bus stand, he said that the decision will be taken by the Government.
