Still a garden city, thanks to MCC's green zeal
From Mandakini, DH News Service, Mysore:

Mysore may not be losing its tag of a garden city after all. Thanks to the City Corporation’s efforts which has developed 35 parks scattered in various localities of the city and thrown them open to the public.

In fact, this is in keeping with the requirement for the increase in green cover in tune with the growth of the city and in an age when environmental awareness is on the rise among the people.

These parks have come up at Siddarthanagar (near Lalitha Mahal), Bogadi, Udayagiri, Siddiquinagar, Gokulam, Hebbal, Lakshmikanthanagar and Subbarayanakere among others.

The parks have come up at expenses of Rs two lakh to Rs 15 lakh a park. The maximum amounts have been spent for the development of the Subbarayanakere and Siddarthanagar parks.

Decorative plants, fencing, walkers’ path and lighting facilities have all come up much to the delight of the visitors to the park.

Small fountains too have been installed. Besides green lawns, the various play things that have been provided are sure to give kids a rocking time. Jogging paths have also been laid in the parks that are spread over an area of five acres each.

Riding on the green zeal, MCC plans to develop 15 more parks in the city and tenders have been called for the same.

They will come up at KHB Colony in Kuvempunagar, in front of the Ramakrishnanagar school, near the Asha Mandir homes at Hebbal, Srirama Park in Siddarthanagar and near Mahesh Nursing Home in the area, at

Vijayanagar 16th cross, at Basavanagudi in Hebbal, near the Nandibasappa Gori at Siddiquinagar, Soligadas Park at Kyathamaranahalli, on Udayakrishna Hotel Road, near Milk Dairy at Alanahalli Layout, Varasiddhivinayaka Park at Giriyabovipalya, Muneshwara Park at Gayathripuram, besides a park each at Kalyanagiri and Gururaja Layout.

The new parks will also be provided with the necessary facilities. H Ramu, City Corporation Horticulture Department Assistant Director, told Deccan Herald that an amount of Rs 2.38 crore has been set aside for the development of gardens this year.

The Corporation is thus, responding to the demands of the people for parks in their respective areas.  As many as 6,500 saplings are also being planted in different parks as part of the city greenery project.
