Twenty-three years into politics, Mayawati, one time civil services aspirant and teacher, has made it good in the material world.
In her affidavit filed before returning officer Rajendra Prasad Pandey on Monday, as part of the nomination process for the Vidhan Parishad election, she has declared property worth crores.
And while the driver of Dalit resurgence may not have a car to her name, she owns two commercial establishments in Connaught Place, New Delhi, priced at Rs 2.05 crore and Rs 1.27 crore and another commercial establishment at Okhla which is priced at Rs 15.50 crore.
Her residential properties comprise one mansion at Nehru Road in the Cantonment of Lucknow and another at Sardar Patel Marg in Delhi, the cost of which, according to her, is Rs 97.42 lakh and Rs 18.02 crore respectively.
But surprisingly the daughter of the soil, has no agricultural land in her name.
Besides Rs 50.27 lakh in hand, the UP chief minister also has cash deposits in banks, financial institutions and non-banking financial companies totalling Rs 12.88 lakh.
Known for her penchant for jewellery, the Bahujan Samaj Party president has 380.17-carat diamonds worth Rs 49.75 lakh, gold and studded jewellery worth Rs 50.87 lakh. There is even a 18.5kg silver dinner set costing Rs 1.12 lakh. And apparently unknown to many the lady also has an artistic bent of mind and owns murals worth Rs 15 lakh.
But she apparently does not trust the vagaries of the share markets and has no shares or bonds to her name. The declaration also proves that Mayawati’s net worth has gone up since 2004 when she contested the Rajya Sabha elections. Then she had Rs 9.78 crore in her bank accounts and in financial and banking institutions besides Rs 1.50 lakh in cash.
