Naxalites while enforcing 48-hour economic blockade to protest the policies of state and central government on Tuesday took to violence damaging railway property and disrupting the rail and road transport in different part of Jharkhand.
According to the police, the violence began on Monday night after the rebels, numbering between 40 and 50, raided a goods train between Richughuta and Chetar railway station on Barkakana-Barwadih rail section in Latehar district of Jharkhand, held the guard and driver of the train captive and blew up twine engines of the goods train using powerful explosives.
Nine wagons of the goods trains were damaged in the blast.The incident occurred at around 11.30 pm. However, no casualties occurred in the incident.
In Ishari Bazar area of Giridih district the naxalites disrupted the movement of trains by putting a truck on the track at a railway crossing.
Meanwhile, the railway department has suspended the movement of train services including the passenger, express and good trains on Barkakana-Barawadih section, while the timing of other long distant trains has either been rescheduled or their routes have been diverted.
