Police busts gang hideout, nabs three
DH News Service, Bangalore:
Bangalore City police sent out a warning to mushrooming rowdy elements by firing at notorious rowdy-sheeter Anil Kumar alias Anil (28) and two of his associates, who were hiding at a makeshift shed at Proorna Pragna Layout in Subramanyapura police station limits in the early hours of Wednesday.

Anil, Mahesh and Manju alias Chuli were arrested.
Around 5.55 am, police stormed into a secluded 8 x 10 shop, bearing a board, ‘Aditya real estate’. This shop, atop a hillock, was where Anil and his associates were taking shelter. After surrounding the area, police fired two rounds in air and asked them to surrender. When the trio didn’t heed to the call, police broke open the main door and barged in. Anil aimed his revolver at the men in khaki, but it went bust. They then used talwars (swords) to ward off the police. Two constables, Bhasker and Kumar, suffered major injuries.
K G Nagar police inspector Gopal Reddy fired at Anil on his knee. Seeing this, his associates Mahesh and Manju surrendered. Within seconds, Anil followed suit.
The two injured constables — Bhaskar attached to Shankarpuram police station and Kumar (Tyagarajnagar police station) — are being treated at Victoria Hospital.
An imported revolver, magazines, three talwars, a bunch of visiting cards of land developers, politicians and financiers, alcohol bottles, fake vehicle number plates and thermocol pieces were found at the site of crime.
Police Commissioner N Achutha Rao visited injured Anil, who is said to be out of danger, at Victoria Hospital. He also announced a reward of Rs 10,000 for the team.
“Police have reacted in an apt manner. A few days ago, Anil’s gang, which was involved in a petrol bunk robbery, had attacked constables. After that, Bangalore South DCP Alok Kumar had formed various teams and had given clear instructions to cut the gang to size,” said Chamarjpet ACP G T Nayak.
Anil was trying to finish off Gunda and Gooli Basava, both criminals, said Nayak. Anil and his associates are working for Sunil, who is in jail.

Tried to kill a trustee

The gang had tried to kill Mahanandi Nanjunda Shetty, a member of the Vasavi trust. Anand’s father, Narayana Murthy, is also one of the trustees. Anand is stated to be absconding.
During interrogation it was learnt that the gang was hired by one Anand, the son of another trustee.
After the operation failed, Anand, who had given his van for the operation, did not take it back. The gang had used this vehicle for all its criminal activities, including the petrol bunk robbery.
In 2004, Anil had killed his brother Kencha and was involved in various criminal activities, including attempt to murder, robbery, extortion and chain-snatching. After his release from jail, he roped in some young boys into the gang.
Recently, the gang had stolen Rs 70,000 from a petrol bunk in Ilyasnagar at KS Layout.
