Chikmagalur taluk people’s representatives Federation will stage a protest against the proposed amendment to Panchayat Raj Act on July 29. A memorandum will be submitted to the DC on the occasion.

Federation President H S Krishne Gowda and Secretary M Jagadeesh have called upon all the Gram Panchayats to lock their Gram Panchayat on the occasion.

Earlier, beneficiaries under various schemes of the government were selected by the Gram Panchayats at the Gram Sabha. They alleged that the Government is trying to snatch away the powers of people’s representatives and trying to weaken the democratic system. Governor should not accept the amendment to Panchayat Raj Act.
