Ramadas memorial on July 1

Prof K Ramadas memorial programme has been organised on July 1 at Kalamandir under the auspices of Federation of Progressive Organisations.

Noted linguist Prof Lingadevaru Halemane who announced this at a press conference here on Wednesday also stated that Ramadas’s associates will share the moments spent with him on the occasion.

Ramadas demonstrated as to how a struggle should be led in the social life. People like Kadidal Shamanna and Rajendra Chenni were included as Naxalite sympathisers in the list that was announced just a few days after his demise. It is important to note how he would have reacted to the move, Mr Halemane said.

On July 1, Hanumanna Nayaka will render thathva padas from 10 am to 11 am and in the following session scheduled from 11 am, William Sagara will speak about Ramadas’s childhood, Kadidal Shamanna about his associations, Nataraj Huliyar on intercaste marriages, annihilation of caste and Manava Mantapa, while Prof Prabhushankar will talk about him as a teacher.

Journalist Rajashekhara Koti, Abdul Rasheed, Kripakara- Senani, K Mahadev, K N Shivatheerthan and K T Shivaprasad will speak in the second session to commence at 1 pm.

In the third and final session, at 3 pm, D S Nagabhushan will deal with ‘Socialist struggle in Karnataka’, Ravivarma Kumar will talk on ‘Communalism and violence’, K Channabasappa will speak on ‘Freedom of expression’ and K S Puttannaiah on ‘Farmer struggle’.

While, G K Govinda Rao will preside over the valedictory function to be held at 5.30 pm. U R Ananthamurthy, Devanura Mahadeva, Siddaramaiah and others will participate. K Muddukrishna, Swamy Anand and Rajashekhara Koti were present at the meet.
