International meet
Two postgraduate media students, Divya Jaising and Poornima Jayantilal, from Commits, Bangalore, are participating in the Fourth Annual International Communications Symposium being held from June 27-30 in Lisbon, Portugal. The three-day symposium is being attended by students from top universities around the globe, and is being organised by the Superior School of Mass Communication, Lisbon, Portugal.
The symposium is part of an international communications project run by 11 universities in 11 countries to study international corporate and development communication practices. The global communications project, which was launched in 2002, has since undertaken projects for General Electric Co., Kingdom of Swaziland, Organisation of African Unity (OAU), and Federal Republic of Germany. This year's project was undertaken for Cognis Deutchland GmbH, one of the largest speciality chemical companies in the world, states a release from Commits.

New batch of students
The ICFAI Business School (IBS) welcomed its new batch of students with a ceremony filled with warmth, humour, thoughtfulness and cultural activities. The morning session began with ice breakers giving freshers a platform to showcase their talents, states a release.
After the informal gathering, Director, IBS, Prof T R Venkatesh provided a bird’s eye view of the curriculum, faculty and the summer internship programmes (SIP) that students will go through over a period of two years. He urged them to shape their dreams and ambitions into reality. Dean, IBS, Prof Lata Chakravarthy followed this up with a pep talk on making their study a meaningful one using the 3H theory: “Listen to what your ‘heart’ says, think with your ‘head’ and give back to society with your ‘hand’.”
Chief guests KTwo Technologies CEO Anant Koppar and Janaagraha founder Ramesh Ramanathan spoke to the students. Koppar stressed on the need for knowledge sharing and being effective as a team player. Ramanathan thrilled the audience with his anecdotes and said while students can’t be architects of their destiny, they can be the artisans of the same and the ideal platform to start would be the institution which serves as a catalyst to their aspirations.

New student council
The student council of St Joseph’s College of Commerce was elected recently. G K Govind Rao, eminent academician, film actor and social activist was the chief guest for the event. Elections for the council were held way back in March and the first and second year degree students voted. The whole college was decked up with colourful handmade posters as campaigning was done with great enthusiasm.
Finally, the members elected to the council were: Karthik Siddarth (president), Rima Mathias (secretary), Charmanna B K (treasurer), Nagashree B V (ladies’ secretary), Roshan Samuel (academics coordinator), Jayson Pereira (cultural coordinator) and Rohan Prabhu (sports coordinator). Class Representative elections were also held. The Council took an oath promising to take the college to greater heights, states a release.
