Presidency School, RT Nagar, outplayed hosts Bishop Cotton Boys’ School by 61 runs to annex the under-17 Cottonian Shield cricket title here on Wednesday.
Batting first, Presidency amassed 215 for nine in their stipulated 40 overs. Akshay Kodath top-scored for Presidency with 76 (12x4), while Aman Raj made a sedate 74 with five hits to the fence. For Cottons, Dabreet picked up four for 31, while S Sharan scalped two for 35.
Challenging task
Chasing a challenging 216 for a victory, Dabreet, after a fine effort with the ball earlier, came good with the bat too. His fighting 46, which was laced with five hits to the fence, kept Cottons in the hunt. But with his departure, the hosts’ hopes went up in smoke.
Akheel (29) and Muthumaran (29) did come up with useful contributions, but that was just not enough on the day.
Presidency skittled them out for 154 in 37.2 overs and denied Cottons of bagging a double. The hosts had on Tuesday defeated Presidency in the under-14 final.
For Presidency, A Rehan and B Ganesh picked up two wickets apiece.
