Having seen his predecessors in the past often blamed for the City’s mess whenever it rains, the new Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner is taking no chance and placed tackling rain related problems in an effective manner as his top priority.
Dr S Subramanya who assumed charge on Thursday as the 53rd BBMP Commissioner said the BBMP will ensure that the citizens do not face hardship during or after the rains and that the families affected are provided immediate attention without any delay.
Listing his other priorities, the 1983 cadre IAS Officer who took over the reins from K Jairaj said that traffic management, solid waste management and providing health infrastructure to the poor were his other immediate areas of interest.
Special attention would be given on implementing projects already initiated like construction of underpasses, road widening, modifications of storm water drains, providing facilities to newly added areas of BBMP, he said.
“Though I was not involved with the BBMP in the past, I am aware of the problems which dogs the city. I will chalk out a plan after meeting the officials. As far a traffic is concerned like every body else it takes an hour for me to reach home from office,” he said.
He added that he would be in constant touch with the citizens and that they could meet him every day between 3 to 5 pm at his office and also communicate their grievances on the his email : www.commissioner@BMP.online.org.
Dr Subramanya who was earlier Secretary to Government (Budget and Resources) Finance Department said BBMP’s finance was healthy, its revenue was surplus and that maximisation of revenue realisation from all sources was on his agenda.
Outgoing commissioner K Jairaj handed over charge to Dr Subramanya said he was satisfied with his achievements as BBMP commissioner in the last 14 months.
“However, there are many works still pending. I am hopeful that the new commissioner will be successful in his endeavours. Mr Subramanya is an efficient officer and he will handle the corporation affairs effectively”, he said.
