'Job potential of PE graduates waiting to be tapped'
DH News Service, Mysore:

Director of Physical Education of the Bharathiyar University, Coimbatore, Dr A Pushparajan, has said that there is immense job scope for degree holders in physical education, and there was a need to identify them and move forward.

Pushparajan was speaking at the valedictory of the fifth 21-day refresher camp organised for physical education teachers and directors of the degree colleges and the UGC-academic staff college in the city on Thursday.

“Those with degrees in physical education need not wait for jobs. They can start fitness, aerobics and yoga centres or join as directors or instructors in these centres. Besides taking up jobs as trainers in schools, colleges and organisations, they can also give commentary in sports meets, cricket and football matches.

They can also provide knowledge related to their field to the people. Thus they can increase their employment opportunities,” Pushparajan suggested.

Degree holders in the field must stop specialising in one discipline. Instead, they can strive to excel in four different disciplines, he said, adding that it was also necessary for them to develop good communication skills.

Asking them to get computer education for themselves, he said they must also concentrate on research.
There must be uniform syllabus for physical education in all universities of the country, he added.

Dr C Krishna, director of the physical education department of he Mysore University, Prof G Venkatesh Kumar of the UGC-academic staff college and others were present.
