BRIDGE COLLAPSES
Holegaru village isolated
DH News service, Koppa:

Holegaru, Malaga, Kelakuli and Bachanakudi villages of the Taluk are transformed in to an island owing to the heavy rainfall and the collapse of the small bridge constructed across Musure stream in Holegaru at Siddarmatt.

MLA  D N Jeevraj had donated Rs 3.50 lakhs from MLA Fund to construct the bridge. Contractors took minimum period to construct the bridge and ended up with cheap construction materials which resulted in its destruction, alleged villagers.

Flood has washed off mortar tools, wooden plates and three large pipes. Villagers were against constructing the bridge in the present area and they had suggested other area which was disagreed by the contractors, who washed off their hands in a hurry by digging a road in the land of Lokayya and constructed  the bridge.

According to Prabhakar, a local resident there is no road on the other side of the bridge instead there is a 10 feet deep ravine.

Villagers warned to take up strong protest if the new bridge is not constructed in the place of their selection and it should  be constructed by using pillars and not pipes. They have also urged not to make use of Natural Calamity Relief fund to reconstruct the bridge instead the contractors and engineers should be punished for their fault and the work should be completed.
