The teaching and non-teaching staff of KCT Polytechnic Aided College here have threatened to go on a strike from July 2, if the management failed to pay by July 1 their salaries pending from the last nine months.
Notice served
All the 70 staff of the college have served a notice of strike to the college principal asking him to pay the salaries immediately or be prepared to face the strike. KCT Polytechnic Staff spokesman Karim Khan said that they have no other alternative as they have been deprived of salaries for the last nine months.
A notice has also been served to the Director of Technical Education.
The staff have brought to the notice of the Director that all the aided polytechnics have received their salary grants except the KCT Polytechnic Aided College which is not only an aided institution, but also a minority educational institution.
Karim Khan said due to non payment of salaries, the life of employees and their dependents had become miserable and education of their children was badly affected.
Refusal
They complained that the college management had refused to pay even part of the salaries out of tuition fee till the salary grants are received from the government.
They have urged the Director to take serious cognisance of the matter and arrange for immediate release of grants and payment of their salaries.
Minorities
KCT Polytechnic is a Muslim-dominated educational institution. Out of 70 employees of both teaching and non-teaching staff, 63 are Muslims while only seven are Hindus.
