Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Thursday spurned Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacherjee’s offer for talks for finding a peaceful solution to the current impasse at Singur and Nandigram.
“He( Mr Bhattacherjee) is not sincere and committed in his offer. We’ve seen in the past how he has gone back on his promises on Singur. We have no faith in him, and as such there is no question of responding to his letter,” Ms Banerjee told reporters at her South Kolkata residence here.
In his eagerness to end the stalemate over the Nandigram peace process and the decision of the Trinamool to resist the Tata Motors small car project at Singur, the CM had, in a letter, expressed his willingness to sit across the table with Ms Banerjee.
When asked to elaborate on the factors that prompted her to boycott the dialogue offer, she said: “Look at the double standard of the CPM. The state assembly speaker Hasim Abdul Halim declared on Thursday that he would refuse to entertain any question on Singur and Nandigram affairs during the monsoon session of the assembly. Contrast this with the CM’s offer for talks. Don’t you think it’s ridiculous ?”
