Devotees visiting the Ganesh temple of Siddhivinayak at Dadar in Central Mumbai will now be able to offer coconuts to the deity and take garlands inside.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil told a news conference on Thursday that the government had directed the Siddhivinayak Trust to install scanners and conduct intensive frisking of visitors under the police supervision to prevent any terror attacks, while allowing coconuts and garlands into the shrine.
The Trust had banned offerings of coconuts and garlands fearing use of these essential items of worship by terrorists.
