Bangalore: The special investigation team of central division, Bangalore City police, cracked a murder case by arresting a man in Chennai on Friday. The accused has been identified as Amanulla alias Agneeshwar (31), a resident of Garvebavipalya.
The murder of Ali Mohammad Khan (70), a resident of Shanthinagar and a former project manager of Royal Air Force of Saudi Arabia, had created a sensation last week. The highly decomposed body of Khan was found in an abandoned car near Garvebavipalya, in Madivala police station limits, on June 23.
Initially, police suspected it to be the handiwork of land mafia as Khan was into real estate business. However, investigations revealed Khan’s deceitful conduct with Amanulla’s wife, Prema, proved costly for him.
Police said Khan was attracted towards Prema. He used to meet the couple on their evening walks. Amanulla, a PG in Tamil literature, was in search of a job, while Prema, an MCA, was working in a private firm. She was afflicted by polio. The couple, who hailed from Chennai, were staying in Garvebavipalya.
On June 19, Khan introduced himself to the couple on Double Road as an NRI doctor from the UK. He claimed he was an expert in treating polio and could cure Prema’s ailment free of cost.
When the couple obliged, Khan examined her in his car the same night. Though he tried to molest Prema, she did not lodge a complaint hoping he would cure her. But she kept her husband informed about Khan’s behaviour.
Later, Khan told Amanulla he would treat Prema the next day. However, Prema left for her office next morning. Khan met Amanulla near St John’s Hospital and the two went in Khan’s car to Amanulla’s house in Garvebavipalya.
When Amanulla questioned about his medical qualifications, Khan tried to assault him with a knife. But, Amanulla overpowered him and strangled him to death. He left the body in the car and fled from the scene.
Khan’s relative filed a complaint with Ashoknagar police on June 23. A special investigation team was formed to nab the accused. During interrogation, Amanulla confessed to the crime.
Phone mystery
Khan’s wife told the police she overheard a telephonic conversation on June 20 wherein a man asked Khan to come near St John’s Hospital. When police checked calls made and received by Khan, they detected a call received by Khan. Based on it, they gathered details and caught Amanulla at the Chennai bus stand.
