25th show of Bikhre Bimb
Ranga Shankara’s production of Girish Karnad’s hugely successful play, ‘Bikhre Bimb’ is back on June 30 and July 1. Translated from the Kannada original by Padmavati Rao, Bikhre Bimb premiered at National School of Drama’s Theatre Utsav and has since performed in all the major fests and cities in India.
Directed by Girish Karnad and K M Chaitanya and featuring Arundhati Nag as the feisty Kannada writer who suddenly becomes an international celebrity by writing a best-seller in English, this play was hailed as one of the best productions in the country in 2005. The play explores the dilemma of Indian writers who choose to write in English and it is also a moving story of conflict and the desire for fame.
