Raj emerges triumphant

Coimbatore, agencies: Delhi 's Raj Randhawa shot a one-over 73 to clinch the Coimbatore Amateur Golf Championship at the par-72 Coimbatore Golf Club on Friday. Randhawa finished with a tournament tally of 11-over 299.
Gagan Verma brought in the day’s best card of level-par 72 to finish tied second at 303 alongside Vikram Rana, who shot a 75. All-India amateur champion K Prabagaran finished fourth at 305 after shooting a final-round 73, while Sri Lankan compatriot Mithun Perera finished tied fifth with Simarjeet Singh at 307. Perera shot a 74 while Simarjeet brought in a card of 80.
Jha finishes 7th
Eagleton's Abhishek Jha finished a further stroke behind in seventh place after carding a final-round 74.
Nagpur's Moin Malak (84) was a further three strokes behind in eighth place at 311. Hyderabad's Arshdeep Tiwana (75) finished ninth at 312 while Jaipur's Amanjyot Singh (77) round off the top ten at 313.
Randhawa was in fine form as he played consistent golf. He started with a birdie on the second but dropped shots on the third and fourth.
A birdie on the fifth was followed by a double bogey on the eighth. He recovered well to fire a birdie on the ninth to make the turn at one over.
On the back nine, he started with a double bogey on the 10th but birdied the 11th and 13th to end the day at 73.
“The conditions were tough but I played really well today and controlled my aggression,” said Randhawa.   
Verma started his round with a birdie on the first hole. A bogey on the tenth, where he three-putted from 15 feet, saw him end the day at 72.
