The Indian Red Cross Society, Karnataka State Branch, plans to set up a corps of volunteers in every district of the State to work in times of disaster.
This was announced by the Vice-Chairman of Indian Red Cross Society, Karnataka State Branch, Wooday P Krishna at the inauguration of a two-day workshop on the theme ‘District Branch Development’ in Bangalore on Friday.
Mr Krishna said the Society would start a pilot project in the city this August, where a band of volunteers would be chosen from diverse fields, who are willing to put in hundred hours of social service in a year to help people in distress and work in emergency situations.
Former Hon Treasurer of Indian Red Cross Society, B L S Murthy urged Red Cross volunteers to conduct health camps for children in rural areas and slums.
The workshop meant for Red Cross members, aims at strengthening adminsitrative set up of Red Cross district branches.
