Blog music, blog tv, blog cricket, blog jokes: Blogs to express comments, views and indicate events has become common. But what about blogs by politicians? Home Minister Dr V S Acharya has a blog. And, a minister who has a website and regularly updates it is Women and Child Welfare Minister P M Narendraswamy.
Log on to drvsacharya.blogspot.com and you will find Acharya’s take on topical issues of the State. He is the only minister in the Yeddyurappa’s cabinet to have a blog and update it every day.
The blog has a profile of the minister, reports of events he attended and remarks on his style of functioning as Home Minister. He offers his comments on letters to the editor column in the papers too.
The death of Padmapriya is one among the most debated issues on Acharya’s blog.
The credit for maintaining the blog goes to Dr Kiran Acharya, son of Acharya. “My father launched the blog more than a year ago. It has more hits now because he is a minister. On an average, 450 people visit the blog a day.”
Kiran says his father goes through the blog every morning and suggests contents to be updated besides offering his comments on reports related to him. Interestingly, all five children of the minister are contributing for maintaining the blog. Kiran’s elder brother Dr Raviraj Acharya, Rajesh Prasad, Ganesh Prasad and Bharati - all three children of the minister and software engineers in the US are contributing to keep the blog updated.
Website
The credit of launching a website after becoming a minister in the Yeddyurappa’s cabinet goes to Narendraswamy. He is an Independent MLA but supporting the BJP government. He launched - www.narendrswamy.com - soon after becoming the minister.
Ashok, a journalist with software knowledge, updates his website. “The content is updated on instructions from the minister. His email id is mandyapmn@yahoo.com and people can send their mails to him,” Ashok says.
Yeddyurappa launched a website - www.vijayeekarnataka.com - during the elections but it is not updated after he became the CM. Same is the fate of minister Aravind Limbavali’s website - www.bjparavind.com. This was an exercise done during the election time. One of Limbavali’s associates said the minister may re-launch the website in a week’s time. Even ministers Vishweshwara Hegade Kageri, Basavaraj Bommai and Janardhana Reddy and Suresh Kumar plan to launch a website of their own.
