Anti-naxal training centre at Kudremukh
Udupi/Mangalore, dhns: A proposal is being chalked out by the Home Ministry to establish the Police and ANF Training Centre in Kudremukh township to combat naxal activities, said Home Minister V S Acharya. Speaking to reporters after the Udupi district police review meeting on Sunday, he said Kudremukh is easily accessible to districts of Chikmagalur, Shimoga, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.
4 Council seats for BJP
Bangalore, pti: With the fifth result also going in its favour, the BJP asserted its supremacy in the State bagging four out of the five Legislative Council seats. A H Shivayogi Swamy of BJP (18,263 votes) was declared elected from the South- East Graduates constituency, getting the better of JD(S) nominee H S Shivashankar (10,193).
6 killed in accident
H D Kote, dhns: Six persons died when a lorry in which they were travelling rammed into a tree between Jakkanahalli and Handpost here on Sunday. According to the police, Ramanna, Vykunta, Basava and Shivappa died on the spot, while Nagappa and Sundar died of injuries at KR Hospital in Mysore.
Custody for Atul Rao
Udupi, dhns: The Chief Judicial Magistrate on Sunday ordered that Atul Rao be sent to judicial custody till July 9 in connection with Padmapriya suicide case. Though the magistrate had odered police custody for Rao till June 30, he was produced before him on Sunday itself.
