SHIMOGA BRIEFS

New SUDA members 
   The State government has appointed H Krishna and  Honnamma as members of Shimoga Urban Development Authority. H Krishna and Honnamma will serve as SUDA members for 3 years term, informed Under Secretary of the  Urban Development Department in a release.

Loans to provide employment
   Department of Social Welfare will provide loans to unemployed youths from the Scheduled Caste for undertaking self-employment ventures, under special unit scheme.
   Candidates who are interested in setting up cycle shops, vegetable shops, telephone booths, brick making, plumbing, photography and related trades can avail themselves of loan upto Rs 10,000. Nearly, 60 percent of the loans will be offered as financial assistance and the remaining amount will be given in the form of bank loans.
   For further details and applications, interested are asked to contact taluk level social welfare officer.
   June 21 is the last date to submit filled in application forms.

Workshop on horticulture
   Workshop and training programme on ‘Horticulture Processing’ will be held under the aegis of the Department of Horticulture in the city on June 11.
   Experts will deliver lecture and conduct demonstration on horticulture processing in the programme. Ryots interested to take part in the programme are asked to register their names with Senior Assistant Director of Horticulture.

Cotton seeds at 75% subsidy
   DCH-32 cotton seeds developed by the State Seeds Corporation is available for farmers in the district. Small and marginal farmers can avail themselves of the seeds from Raitha Samparka Kendras at 75 percent subsidy.
Workshop on ‘Light Music’
   Two day workshop on ‘light music’ will be held under the aegis of Karnataka Sangha in the city on June 9 and 10. Renowned vocalist Shimoga Subbanna will take part in the workshop as resource person, where training will be imparted about rendering poet laureate Kuvempu and Dr G S Shivarudrappa’s compositions.
   Interested are asked to register their names with Secretary, Karnataka Sangha, Shimoga within June 5.

Admissions to UG, PG begins
   Admissions for BSc and MSc courses in Information Technology offered by Directorate of Distance Education of Kuvempu University has begun at Sahyadri Science College.
