Biotech Park to be opened soon

Vision Group on Biotechnology Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw said the focal theme of this years meet was Think BIG: Think Biotechnology, Thinking Innovation, Think Growth.

The seventh edition of the three-day BangaloreBio 2007 will be held from June 7 to 9, 2007.

Briefing reporters, Vision Group on Biotechnology Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, said the focal theme of this year’s meet was Think BIG: Think Biotechnology, Thinking Innovation, Think Growth.

Stating that both the conference and trade show would be held at Bangalore International Exhibition Centre, on Tumkur Road, she said BangaloreBio will comprise of an international conference with several scientific sessions, an agri biotech day with focus on decade of global experience — learning for the future and indigenisation of agri-biotechnology — hurdles and enablers, B2B forum. The meet will also see trade show, career forum, CEO Conclave, country presentations  and industry trials for the first time.

Meanwhile, State IT & BT Secretary M N Vidyashankar said the the first phase of Biotech Park, being developed at a cost of Rs 11 crore plus by Jurong & National Building Corporation of India, would be thrown open by the month-end or early July.

In this regard, he said, the second phase of the park would be developed at a cost of Rs 550 crore and be ready in the next two years.

The second and third phase of the biotechnology park development has been bagged by US-based Alexandria Inc, he said, adding that the company has developed 127 biotech parks in US alone.

Mr Vidyashankar said the global bids that were invited for the project saw nearly 32 companies expressing interest out of which 24 were shortlisted and Alexandria was finally picked for the project.
