Dacoits attacked a group of farmers at Nedravalli village in the taluk and made away with Rs 3.25 lakh.
Farmers who run group finance activity in the village meet once a month for the transaction purpose. This month’s meeting was was held at one Subbaiah’s house on Sunday at 10.30 pm. The dacoits armed with lethal weapons barged into the house threatened the farmers and took away the cash collected for monthly disbursal. Though around 30 farmers were present in Subbaiah’s house, they could not offer resistance as the dacoits were armed with swords and cudgels.
Though the farmers chased them the dacoits managed to escape under the cover of darkness. Residents of Nedravalli have informed the police that dacoits were conversing in Kannada and Hindi. Police suspect the involvement of locals in act as dacoits striked exactly at the time when cash was collected for disbursal. Superintendent of Police Arun Chakravarthy, Additional SP Siddaramappa, DySP Bhatakurki visited the spot. Rural Police have registered a case and investigation is on.
