Chaos reigned at the Legislative Council Committee meeting constituted for review the functioning of the SDMC in Davangere on Monday.
During the meeting the ignorance of the importance of the meeting among teachers and SDMC members came to the fore.
State Primary School Teachers’ Association President M Doddappa pointed out that the SDMC itself should manage mid-day meal scheme in the schools, which led to confusion in the meeting.
SDMC members began to protest and they even came in front of the dais. For some time nobody could be heard though everyone was talking.
Deputy Commissioner M B Dyaberi tried to resolve the controversy but in vain.
Then meeting president Dr L Hanumanthaiah took the onus upon himself to bring some peace in the meeting.
Mr Doddappa, continuing his tirade against SDMC members, alleged that a few members took bribe for sanctioning development work in schools. He also alleged that the members harass head masters and staff. He sought reduction in the powers for the SDMC members. He suggested that the practice of having joint deposit must be stopped and the entire deposit must be borne by the SDMC members.
Legislative Committee President Dr Mallanagowda Nadagowda fired a volley of questions to Mr Doddappa. If the Head Masters themselves alleviate of their responsibilities who will be held responsible? When he said that the practice of joint deposit will be continued, Mr Doddappa was left gaping.
SDMC representatives Mellekatte Hanumanthappa, N M Basappa, A B Ravi and others participated.
