Editors of a local daily who were arrested by the Bhadravati police on Thursday, on charges of publishing derogatory remarks against minority community in their paper were released on bail on Saturday.
Acting on a complaint from Anjuman Islam organisation, the police arrested Principal Editor of Rashtrasheela news paper B V Nagaraj and Managing Editor Keerti Gujjar under section 153(A) for instigating communal feelings. The arrested were remanded to judicial custody and were produced before the dourt on Saturday. After 2 days of judicial custody, they were released on bail.
Meanwhile, Indian Federation of Small and Medium Newspapers has demanded for probe into the incident of arresting scribes.
A conspiracy was hatched to target the scribes, who had reported a public speech and the police have become part of this conspiracy. The Federation alleged and demanded for an impartial probe into the incident and also strict action against police who arrested the scribes. It also submitted a memorandum to the Head Quarters Assistant to DC Mr Omkaramurthy in this regard on Saturday. District unit President of federation Suresh, Ravi Masadi, B C Venugopal, Dhananjay Patil, B Ramesh and others were present on the occasion.
