Sowing seeds are being distributed at all 37 Raitha Samparka Kendra for small and marginal at subsidised rates in the district from Monday, Joint Director of Agriculture A Hanumanthaiah has said.
Speaking to reporters who called on him on Monday, Hanumanthaiah said the State government had released Rs 2.14 crore for the distribution of sowing seeds.
He said a proposal seeking Rs 12.25 crore was submitted to the government. There were 89,000 small farmers and 72,473 marginal marginal farmers in the district, he gave details.
Hanumanthaiah said sowing would be taken up in as many as 2,99,870 hectare. There was a demand for paddy, maize, tur, sunflower and cotton seeds, he said. The government had sent two officials from Bangalore to supervise the stock of sowing seeds and the distribution to the district, he revealed.
Meanwhile, Pioneer seeds’ company had decided to provide a compensation of Rs 1,300 per acre and a bag of seeds for the farmers who had incurred losses by sowing th company’s seeds. Most of the farmers had agreed to this proposal, he noted.
