All primary schools in the State have started teaching English for the first standard students from June 1, but the prescribed textbooks have not reached the schools. Surprisingly, the books are available in the open market.
The government shown high zeal in introducing English, amidst protests, but has failed to show the same enthusiasm in supplying textbooks. Though the Education Minister told the media, a few days ago, that the books would be made available in schools in two to three days, they are not distributed to students in any school. Meanwhile, they were supplied to private book stalls. When Deccan Herald contacted Bellary DDPI Tippeswamy, he said that the books would be available in schools in a week’s time. But he was not ready to accept the fact that the books were available in market. The government has assigned the first standard English textbook printing work to Abhiman Prakashan of Bangalore, through the Karnataka Texts Society. The publication told Deccan Herald that the printing is in progress and will continue for a few more days.
