NITK to host 7th JRM for TEQIP

   National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal will host the seventh Joint Review Mission for Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) between June 6 and 8. 
   National Project Implementation Unit (NPIU) headed by Ravi Mathur, Joint Secretary (Technical), MHRD as National Project Director has selected NITK as one of the two centres in the country for conducting the review of implementation of TEQIP by the officials of the World Bank, the funding agency and the representatives of MHRD and NPIU.
   In this JRM, the progress in implementation of TEQIP in six southern states namely Karnataka, Kerala, TamilNadu, Andhra Pradesh, Maharastra and Gujarat by the respective State Project Facilitation Unit (SPFU) will be reviewed on June 6 while the progress in implementation of TEQIP in NITs at Calicut, Trichi, Warangal, Rourkela, Jamshedpur and Suratkal will be reviewed on June 7.
   The SPFUs from the participating States will be lead by the Secretary, Higher Education of the respective state governments. The centrally funded NITs will be represented by the respective Directors and the TEQIP-Coordinators. 
   The World Bank team headed by Prof Shashi Kanth Shrivastava, Senior Education Specialist, South Asia Region will also have Prof C S Jha, former Director IIT Kharagpur and also former Vice-Chancellor of BHU as a World Bank consultant. Ravi Mathur, National Project Director heads the NPIU team in this JRM.
   New facilities like ladies hostel dining complex, visiting faculty apartments, and health care centre, created in the institution will also be inaugurated on the occasion. BOSH Power Tool Centre an unique facility in the country established under TEQIP in the Institute in collaboration with BOSCH Power Tools Division, Motor Industries Co Ltd will also be inaugurated on the occasion. 
   BOSCH Power Tools Division Vice-President Navin Paul will be the chief guest and will sign a MoU with NITK.  The facility is aimed at providing training in the use of power tools to unorganised sector in the community around, in addition to providing training to the graduate students in their academic programme.
   A Yakashagana puppet show by Sri Ganesh Yakshagana Gombeyata Mandali, Uppinakudru will be held on June 7. 
   NITK has been granted an additional amount of Rs 29.84 million in addition to the outlay of Rs 209.8 million. 
   NITK is the first institute in the country  to receive the entire allocated fund under TEQIP, the release added.
