Slow progress in work, cause of concern
Kundapur, DHNS:

With the slow progress in the construction of the bridge at Dali on the Halegeri-Halkal National Highway 26 which provides the road link to Kollur Mookambika Temple, one of the renowned pilgrimage centres of South India, there are all possibilities of the vehicle movement coming to a halt on the road that links Shimoga and Udupi districts through Kollur. In such a scenario, the residents in the area will be affected.
The bridge at Dali, which is about 6 to 7 kms from Kollur on the Kollur-Shimoga road was in a dilapidated condition and the media had highlighted this dangerous situation. Following this, the State Government undertook the renovation work under KRDCL. The tenders were also called for the construction work, which could cost between Rs 40 lakhs to Rs 50 lakhs around seven months ago and the contract was given to Gyamon India Company. The sub-contractors who got the contract from the company even before the onset of summer, constructed a temporary mud road along side the partially constructed bridge to avoid snapping of the road link on the National Highway. Eventhough the contractor was given the contract on condition that they should complete the work on time, serious efforts were not made by the company to complete the work before the commencement of the monsoon. There are huge stormwater drains on either sides of the bridge and there are all possibilities of the temporary mud road being washed away due to the force of the flowing rain water. Commuters and vehicle owners who pass along this road will have to risk their lives in a few day’s time.  In case, the mud road gets washed away in rain, the commuters who travel to tourist spots like Kollur and Murdeshwar via Shimoga from Bangalore will be forced to take a longer route. The pre-monsoon showers will soon turn into torrential rains and the residents wish that immediate action should be  be taken.
