Asia XI, led by Indian women’s captain Mithali Raj, will take on an African women’s XI in the Afro-Asia Cup here at the M Chinnaswamy stadium on Tuesday.
The afternoon match, that will kick-off the second edition of the biennial event, has a fair mix of players from the cricketing nations in the two continents.
While how much interest the match generates remains to be seen -- a prospect that seems very bleak -- as Asia XI coach Roger Binny put it, there will be more to look forward in the one-dayers with the concept of Twenty20 being still new to this part of the world.
In an attempt to lure more fans to the venue, KSCA is doling out free tickets for the Twenty20 matches to those who buy tickets for the ODI on Wednesday.
While most of the African players are largely unknown, Asia do have a bunch of players in Mithali, Jhulan Goswami -- touted the fastest women’s bowler in the world -- and Jaya Sharma that ring a bell.
