Rain washes out last day’s play
With the last day’s play being washed out without a ball being bowled due to overnight rains, the ZCA (North) - All India University four-day fixture of the All India ZCA (U-19) inter zonal academy cricket tournament for the Col Hemu Adhikari Trophy ended in a draw, reports DHNS from Bangalore.
Following on after being bowled out for 284 in their first innings, AIU were staring defeat at 137 for one in their second innings, when rain came to their rescue. Earlier, ZCA (North) had piled up a mammoth 642 for four declared in their first innings.

Jeev nominated for Khel Ratna
Ace golfer Jeev Milkha Singh, who had a fairytale season last year yielding four titles, has been nominated for Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, country’s highest sports award, reports PTI from New Delhi.
“We recommended Jeev for Khel Ratna because he had a phenomenal season last year. He is the first Indian golfer to break into top 50 and ended the previous year ranked 37th. He has done the country immensely proud,” Secretary General of the Indian Golf Union, Satish Aparajit,said..
Goan team heads for Portugal
Goa’s under-14 football team, led by medio Jesvil D’Souza, left for Portugal on Monday to participate in an internatinal football championship in Lisbon, reports UNI from Panaji.
As part of its ongoing youth development programme, the Goa Football Association (GFA) has deputed the team on a tour of Sri Lanka and Portugal.
The 17-day visit will include one match in Colombo, a training camp in Guimarace and participation in a tournament in Pontinha.
Atapattu in line for Lanka recall
Discarded former Sri Lanka captain Marvan Atapattu is likely to make a comeback this month against Bangladesh after selectors decided to rest veteran Sanath Jayasuriya in the Tests, reports AFP from Colombo. Atapattu, whose last Test match was in December 2005 against India at Ahmedabad, was overlooked by the selectors throughout the World Cup 2007 in the West Indies.
PCB clarifies on Whatmore
A Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official has dismissed speculation that they were still awaiting an association with Dav Whatmore if the Australian failed to crack a deal with the Indian Board, reports PTI from Karachi.
“We have never said that Whatmore would be our coach if India decided against signing him as their coach,” a PCB official was quoted as saying by The News. Pakistan had shown interest in hiring Whatmore, who instead showed willingness in taking up the job with the BCCI. “We have a list of candidates for the job and the PCB would have its pick sometime later this month,” said the official.
