“Do not trouble and taunt the poor and downtrodden by threatening them with the laws which do not even exist. The actual beneficiaries should be provided with the relief and necessary aid,” District in-charge minister S A Ravindranath warned the officials.
Speaking after distributing relief fund to those affected by the Ring Road , Mr Ravindranath said,”People have come to the conclusion that the officials are here to create problems. The victims had to experience a lot of problems due to the delay in the distribution of relief funds. And, seven or eight among them are dead. Though we did try to put an end to these woes many a time before, it took all this long to finally resolve the problems.
The officials of the departments concerned should see to it that the relief reaches the beneficiaries without any hassles.”
This situation has been created due to the amoral system. Distribution of the relief to those affected by the Ring Road should be the top priority.
Measures to provide them alternate facilities should be initiated at the earliest, he said.
Parliamentarian G M Siddeshwar who also spoke on the occasion said that the residents who were affected by the ring road agitated for more than seven years. The relief would be distributed soon if the victims furnish all the necessary documents, he added.
City Development Authority President Ekanath D Raikar said that the process of distributing the relief is getting delayed as those affected are not providing them necessary documents. Initially, it was notified that the victims have to submit 15 documents for the relief. Later, it was decided in the meeting convened by the district in-charge minister and the DC that only five documents have to furnished for obtaining the relief. Now, the victims have been asked to produce only three of the documents. Despite all these many are not providing us the complete and appropriate details, he said.
