A total sum of Rs 246.657 lakhs has been allotted towards seed subsidy at a rate of 75 per cent for small and very small farmers of the district.
The subsidy is for the farmers to take up monsoon sowing operations in a total area of 1,50,978 hectares, according to the Joint Director, Department of Agriculture.
According to the Joint Director, small and very small farmers must obtain seeds at the Raitha Samparka Kendras.
They are allowed to use alternate crops and strains provided crops and strains that are in demand are not available. If the sowing period for the particular crop has expired, then such crops do not attract subsidy; only those crops and strains that can be sown during monsoon are eligible.
As the subsidy is fixed at a rate of 11 per cent to each crop, the farmers should deposit their corresponding share and obtain the seeds and receipt for the same.
It has also been requested that instances of sale of crops and strains from companies not approved and at a higher rate, be brought to the notice of the department by calling 22210743/2221243/22212804 or 22242746.
Strict action will be taken against those who try to benefit by producing fake certificates. The farmers have been requested to preserve the purchase receipt, seed packet/bag/label etc till harvesting is over, it is requested.
