Ibrahim alias Baba Moosa Chauhan, an associate of extradited ganglord Abu Salem who gave three AK-56 rifles to Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, was sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) by the special TADA court here on Wednesday.
He was also slapped a fine of Rs three lakh. He had accompanied Abu Salem and the two producers to Dutt’s residence in Bandra to deliver weapons, on the specific instructions of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim’s brother Anees.
Mr Dutt returned two rifles two days later, but retained one with him. The TADA court had convicted Baba Chauhan under the TADA and on Wednesday sent him to 10 years jail. He had been arrested within a month after the March 12, 1993 bombings.
While in lock up at Mahim police station, Mr Chauhan revealed how he accompanied Abu Salem to producers Sameer Hingora and Hanif Kadawala, and later to Dutt.
When the police picked up Mr Kadawala, he disclosed the name of Mr Dutt. Within a few days, the actor himself was behind bars on his arrival from Mauritius.
Interestingly, Mr Dutt, who received those deadly rifles, has not been convicted under the TADA, and is held guilty under two sections of the Arms Act. But those who delivered him weapons have been convicted under the TADA.
The TADA court has already sentenced Mr Hingora to nine years RI. Kadawala was killed by Chhota Rajan gang when he was out on bail for his role in blasts.
