Activists of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) staged a protest in front of Rangayana against noted film maker M S Sathyu for his alleged remarks against the Vedike members on Wednesday. Sathyu had allegedly called the activists “selfish people” who use Kannada while none of them could speak in chaste Kannada or have not read any part of Kannada literature.
The activists, about 100 in number, led by District President Mohan Kumar Gowda, shouted slogans against Sathyu. However, nobody from Rangayana came out of the Rangayana building where Sathyu is engaged in month-long workshop for young theatre enthusiasts who have arrived from across the State.
The protesters then moved to Vishwa Kannada Apartments, next to government guest house Jaladarshini, anticipating that Sathyu may be residing there.
Finally, they learnt that Sathyu had left for Bangalore from Jayalakshmipuram Police Inspector Rajashekhar who rushed to the spot after the protesters had gathered in front of the apartments.
Protests have also been held in Mandya and Maddur following the remarks of the film maker. Vedike activists have vowed to carry on protests all over the State until Sathyu apologises for his remarks.
