The seat selection process for medical and dental courses began at the CET Cell on Wednesday with toppers of Common Entrance Test- 2007 being felicitated by Medical Education Minister Dr V S Acharya and Higher Education Minister D H Shankaramurthy.
The ministers felicitated Karan Shetty, Vinay V and Ameena Ashfia who stood first, second and third respectively in the medical stream. In the engineering category the first three toppers Venkatesh Kaulgud, G V Sagar and K V Ramya were honoured. All the three were given certificates and were given cash awards. The first rank holder was given a cash award of Rs 5000, the second rank holder got Rs 4000 and the third rank holder got Rs 3000.
Mr Shankaramurthy said the government spends Rs 5.3 lakh on each student in a government medical college. “This money is from the society, which people pay to the government in the form of tax. Students opting for medical courses should realise their responsibility towards the society and should be grateful to the opportunity provided to them by the people of the State and country,” said the minister. Canara Bank gave away memento to all the rank holders of medical and engineering stream.
