Count the deadlines you have to meet so frequently. Deadlines to file your returns, to pay your taxes, to pay your fees, to pay your telephone, electricity and water bills, to file a story, to submit a proposal, to finish a meeting, to pick up an application and submit it, to redeem a gift voucher, to grab a good market offer…The list is endless.
We are so caught up with marking deadlines on our calendars, that we may sometimes set deadlines for God too.
Do some of us pray, asking God to grant us a wish before a particular date or before a particular time? Or may be "Lord, If I get a job by the end of this month…" or "Lord, I pray that I find a proposal for my son or daughter before the end of this year"…
The Lord's time may not be ours. Our time may not be the Lord's. We must fit ourselves into God's time table not fit Him into ours. Only then we will experience an all pervading peace while waiting upon the Lord to respond to our prayers. It requires a great amount of faith to accept this.
Saint Peter writes in his letter " But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day…" (I Peter 3:8)
The Prophet Isaiah assures strength to those who wait upon the Lord, he says " they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint."(Isaiah 40:31)
We become bitter and broken when God doesn't respond to our calendar. So don't calendar God. Don't pressurize Him. He knows your future.
He knows what is best in mind for you. He knows the right time, the right thing for you and the right way to act in your life. As the Lord says " For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways" (Isaiah 55:8)
Saint Francis of Assisi was so resigned to the will of God, least worried about what tomorrow with hold that he took one day at a time. When he was hoeing in the garden, someone asked him" What would you do if you knew Christ were coming back today?" He looked up, smiled and quipped "I will continue hoeing".
