GP election winners
Bhadravathi, DHNS: The following are the winners of the election held on Sunday for some Gram Panchayats in the taluk: K T Prasanna BC candidate from Hiriyur village, Kubendrappa (Congress) from Agasanahalli, Gowrama (Congress) from Arakere.
The counting of the votes was held at the Tahsildar's Office. Vijayakumar, assistant commissioner, Shimoga, was present and announced the results. Tahsildar Dr Shanmukha and other officers were also present.
Saplings available
The Forest Division of the Mysore Paper Mills Ltd will be distributing the saplings of Niligiri, Acacia and Mangium. Each sapling, priced Re 1, will be in small plastic bag.

Felicitation to Balija students
Bhadravathi, DHNS: Bhadravathi Taluk Balija Sangha has decided to felicitate meritorious students of the community who have passed X standard and II PUC to mark the birth anniversary of Kaiwara Sri Yoginareyana Thathaiah, Those who have scored the highest marks in these examinations can submit the xerox copies of their marks card along with caste certificate before June 22 to the Balija Samudaya Bhavan, Basaveswara Circle, Old Tow, Bhadravathi for consideration, according to a release the Association.
Students excel in PU examination
Jog Falls, DHNS: Pre-University College of Karnataka Power Corporation has achieved 74 percent result in second PU exam held recently.Of 114 students who appeared for the exam, 4 have secured distinction, 46 first class, 21 second class and 14 students have passed the exam in common class. Anup stood top in Science section by scoring 556 marks followed by Ramesha with 520 marks. In Commerce section, Sandeep has clinched top slot by scoring 512, while Ms Madhu has stood first in Arts section by scoring 513 marks.
Govt decision welcomed
Jog Falls, DHNS: Karnataka Power Corporation Employees Union has welcomed government’s decision to appoint retired cop K S Thammaiah as Chief of KPC vigilance squad. Secretary of Employee Union Nanjundaswamy has said Mr Thammaiah in his new capacity will succeed in plugging power pilferage and enhance KPC’s revenue.
Anniversary function held
Anniversary of recreation club of Karnataka Power Corporation was held recently. Executive Director of KPC K R Subrahmanya who inaugurated the programme said that the recreation will help the employees to remain in good spirit. Recreation and entertainment will also elevate the performance level of employees, he remarked.
Speaking on the occasion, Medical Officer of KPC Dr Jagadeesh said that sports and cultural activities will result in better understanding among employees who hail from diverse backgrounds. Executive Engineer S Udaya Naik and others took part in the programme.
