Social worker to be feted
Raichur, DHNS: Shavantgeri Basavaraj Patil will be felicitated by his fans on June 9 in the City for his contributions in the fields of education, law and cooperation.
   Disclosing this at a press conference here, Shavantgeri Basavaraj Patil Felicitation Committee President R Timmaiah said that the programme will be held at the Pandit Siddarama Jambaladinni Rangamandira at 4 pm in the divine presence of Jayashantalingeshwara Swamiji of Jalahalli Brihanmath and Veerabhadra Shivacharya Swamiji of Bichchali Savira Devara Samsthan Math.
   Cooperation Minister G T Devegowda will inaugurate the function while local MLA A Papa Reddy will release the souvenir. Transport Minister Cheluvarayaswamy and Kalmala MLA Muniappa Muddappa will felicitate Mr Patil.

‘Lift ban on lottery’
Shimoga, DHNS: District Lottery Dealers Association has demanded the State government to lift ban on sale of lottery. Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, President of the association Krishnaprabhu said the decision to ban lottery has put people working in the industry in great misery, resulting in revenue deficit for the government.
   Lottery industry enjoys Constitutional provision. In its absence, people may turn to matka, match fixing and other illegal forms of gambling. Around Rs 4.5 lakh people are rendered jobless due to the decision. In Shimoga, lottery was the source of livelihood for 10 stockists, 1,000 distributors, 200 drivers and 50 announcers, he informed.
