Bangaloreans these days have to deal with a lot of stress due to the never-ending traffic jams. A lot of our time is wasted being caught up in one of the numerous jams that occur everyday. Airtel, joining hands with BTIS (Bangalore Transport Information System) plans to help solve this traffic congestion problem by informing commuters about the best routes to take in order to avoid a traffic jam.
BTIS makes use of state-of-the-art technology and is based on recording traffic densities in real-time, as well as mapping the locations of public transport vehicles continuously.
It will use Airtel’s mobile network to cover all roads and to keep the public informed and updated in order to facilitate their easy and convenient travel. Airtel has joined hands with the State Government to develop a traffic information system that will be available on mobile phones and the internet, enabling users to avoid areas with more traffic thereby helping them reach their destinations faster.
A release quotes president of Mobile Services, Bharti Airtel Ltd, Sanjay Kapoor as saying, “Traffic is today’s most critical urban challenge. There is no major city that does not face traffic problems and jams. The new mobile technology is first-of-its-kind in India and will greatly benefit all commuters in Bangalore. The successful implementation of Bangalore Transport Information System will set an example for other cities to replicate.”
BTIS will help commuters make informed decisions, save time and fuel, avoid stress and also reduce road accidents. The traffic police will be able to manage traffic better since it will help them plan traffic load sharing and allocate resources.
BTIS enables Airtel users to get updates by sending an SMS containing the location specific code to 54321. For area codes, one can refer www.btis.in/smscodes/area_codes.php
