A compact disc allegedly threatening massacre in India and purportedly circulated by international terror outfit Al-Qaeda is being analysed by the Union Home Ministry which “is seized of the matter”.
The CD has surfaced in Jammu and Kashmir and the top officials on Friday said it was given to a local news agency at Srinagar along with a statement purportedly issued by the so-called chief of the banned outfit Abu Abdul Rehman Al-Ansari. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is “conducting the necessary inquiries”.
‘Desperate effort’
“We view such activities and threats as a desperate effort by terrorists and anti-national elements to try and create problems in the country and scare the people. A close watch is being maintained by the state and central government agencies and action is being taken on a continuous basis to foil such designs,” the MHA said after noticing circulation of the CD in Kashmir.
“There is no need for any panic,” the Ministry said.
Director General of J-K Police Gopal Sharma said that his department has immediately taken cognisance of the surfacing of the CD.
“We have come to know about the CD. It will be premature to make a comment at this moment,” he said.
The statement allegedly issued by Al-Ansari claimed that 1000 copies of it have been distributed in mosques across Kashmir valley.
The 15-minute CD reportedly shows a masked man with an AK assault rifle reading out a statement in Urdu criticising the role of certain separatist leaders whose photographs were also displayed, sources said.
Photos of some Indian political leaders belonging to J&K have also been shown in the disc, they said. It was not clear whether the masked man was the so-called Al-Qaeda chief in India.
