Kanimozhi, D Raja elected unopposed
Chennai, PTI:

CPI secretary D Raja and DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi’s daughter Kanimozhi were among those elected  unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu on Friday.
Others elected unopposed from the state are Trichy N Siva (DMK), V Maithreyan and R Ilavarasan (both AIADMK), and B S Gnanadesikan (Congress).
The returning officer for the polls, Naresh Gupta, handed over certificates of their election on Friday evening.
The CPI will be represented in Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu after a gap of two decades. The last CPI member from the state was late M Kalyanasundram. While Kanimozhi, Raja and Ilavarasan will be first-time MPs,  Siva had been a Lok Sabha member and Maithreyan was a member of the Rajya Sabha for over one-and-half-years from 2002.
